Common Questions

Before You Send Your Print

Answers to the questions we hear most from engineers and purchasing managers evaluating a new machining partner.

What tolerances can you hold on production runs? +
Our CNC machines routinely hold tolerances of ±0.0002" — that is two ten-thousandths of an inch — with repeatability of 50 millionths. These are tolerances normally produced on a grinder, and we hold them consistently across full production runs from the first piece to the last.
What is your preferred order quantity? +
We prefer high-volume production runs of 1,500 pieces or more, and we regularly handle orders up to 100,000 pieces. That said, we are flexible — if you have a smaller run or a prototype that could lead to ongoing production, we want to hear about it. Our sweet spot is repeatable orders where we can invest in permanent tooling and drive your per-piece cost down over time.
What materials do you machine? +
We machine a wide range of metals and plastics including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, cast iron, various alloys, and engineering plastics. We work with round, square, and hexagon bar stock, tube stock, as well as castings and forgings. If you have a specific material requirement, reach out and we will tell you whether it is a fit.
What information should I include when requesting a quote? +
The more detail you provide, the faster and more accurate our quote will be. At a minimum, send us your part drawing or print (PDF, DXF, STEP, or STP), the material, and your estimated quantity. If you have tolerance callouts, surface finish requirements, or a target timeline, include those as well. If you do not have a formal print yet, describe your part and we will work through it with you.
How quickly do you respond to quote requests? +
Most quote requests receive a response within one business day. A real person on our team reviews every print — we do not use automated quoting tools. If your project requires additional engineering review, we will let you know the timeline upfront rather than leaving you waiting.
What CNC machining services do you offer? +
We operate CNC turning centers, vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers, and a 6-axis Citizen CNC Swiss screw machine. Beyond CNC, we offer hard turning, burnishing, broaching, precision sawing, die-head threading, laser engraving, and manual machining. We also provide value-added services including assemblies, Kanban stocking programs, VEVA and FMEA analysis, and custom fixture design.
How do you ensure part quality and consistency? +
Quality is built into our process, not just checked at the end. We run in-process inspection at the machine, then verify dimensions in our climate-controlled quality lab using a CMM and optical comparator. Our 1000:1 magnification camera inspection system examines deep inside bores and critical features. We can provide inspection photos upon request. Our pallet pool systems and permanent tooling setups ensure the last part off the fixture matches the first.
Do you hold any certifications? +
We do not currently hold ISO or other formal certifications, though we operate with the process control and inspection rigor that certification requires. We are planning to pursue certification as part of our ongoing growth. If your project requires a specific certification, reach out and we will discuss what we can accommodate.
Who owns Peak Precision? +
Peak Precision, Inc. is family owned and operated by Garrett Riggs and his father-in-law. We took ownership on January 1st, 2026, continuing a machining legacy that started in a two-car garage in Franksville, WI in 1969. When you call or email, you are talking directly to the ownership — not a sales rep or an account manager.
